From Digital Noise to Community Trust: How One Adult School Skyrocketed Net Fans by 3,950%
Social media provides organizations with a space to build trust and develop meaningful relationships with their audiences. By implementing an intentional social media strategy, South Bay Adult School successfully enhanced its outreach, resulting in increased post impressions, engagement, and more meaningful connections with students.
Social media plays a vital role in a strategic marketing strategy by fostering community and facilitating connections through its search, share, save, and networking capabilities. More than just a promotional channel, it provides organizations with a space to build trust and develop meaningful relationships with their audiences.
For adult education and workforce organizations, this means creating a sense of belonging that encourages both enrollment and long-term engagement. With 76% of internet users participating in online communities, social media strategies must prioritize connection over promotion to effectively reach and engage potential learners.
Organic Social Media Case Study: South Bay Adult School (SBAS)
An example of how strategic social media can transform generic outreach into meaningful engagement is South Bay Adult School (SBAS). SBAS worked with Full Capacity Marketing (FCM) to conduct a brand sentiment baseline assessment, develop a marketing and communications plan, and undergo a full rebrand, including a new logo and social media content (graphics and videos).
In addition, FCM worked with SBAS to develop their organic social media strategy and manage their ongoing monthly posting efforts, with the goal of raising awareness, building connections, and encouraging action among both prospective and current students. By implementing an intentional social media strategy, SBAS successfully enhanced its outreach, resulting in increased post impressions (↑ 490%), engagement (↑ 3950%), and more meaningful connections with students.
Posts that highlighted and celebrated students often ranked as the top performers in engagement each month, garnering numerous congratulatory comments and words of encouragement from community members, staff, and students. This showcased the impact of SBAS programs through a student-centered, emotional perspective.

An effective social media strategy blends content that attracts, connects, and converts – turning followers into an engaged community. Three core content pillars were designed with this formula and SBAS’s tagline, “Inspiring Today, Enriching Tomorrow,” in mind. FCM posted to SBAS’ Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram accounts three times a week, with post topics rotating between these three core pillars.

1. Awareness – Who We Are (Inspiring Today): Focused on visibility through mission-driven messaging, staff spotlights, and community news.
2. Programs & Resources – What We Do (Inspiring Today): Highlighted diverse offerings like ESL, Citizenship, and Career Pathways to establish credibility.

3. Student-Centered Content – Why We Do It (Enriching Tomorrow): Shared testimonials and success stories to drive emotional connection and action.

Social Media Tactics to Increase Engagement
As more of our target populations use social media, your organization may be concerned about its effectiveness for conducting outreach. It can be challenging to cut through the constant “digital noise” that students and job seekers encounter daily. This is why having a clear, intentional social media strategy is essential to ensure your content stands out and resonates with your intended audience.
The most effective tactics center on human-centered storytelling, audience psychology, and meaningful engagement:
- Optimize Profiles through:
- Cover Photos (1)
- About Description (3)
- Clear CTAs – make sure all links work, and add your address & phone number, email address, etc. (2, 4)

- Amplify student voices: Share real experiences through informal videos, interviews, and daily routines to build trust and reduce hesitation.
- Use a storytelling structure: Address a specific concern, present a solution, and include a clear call to action to guide users toward the next step.
- Repurpose content across content formats: Use video, carousel posts, and bilingual content to improve reach, accessibility, and engagement.
- Make sure to “pin” key posts to the top of your Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X/Threads/Bluesky profiles

- Build belonging: Highlight student achievements, share alumni stories, and actively respond to comments to strengthen community.
By responding to comments and celebrating both major milestones and smaller achievements, SBAS strengthened its connection with its audience and reinforced a sense of belonging.
For example, “ringing the victory bell”, an SBAS tradition in which graduating students rang the bell in celebration, became a major source of engagement and community pride.

Creating a genuine sense of belonging is essential for adult learners seeking connection, as it leads to higher engagement and helps counteract the digital “noise” they encounter every day. Each interaction increases the likelihood that future posts from your account will be seen by users, as algorithms will recognize these engagements. In fact, responding to comments can boost engagement by as much as 42% on some platforms.
Active community management, which includes replying to comments, resharing tagged posts on stories, and sharing diverse student testimonials, fosters an atmosphere of personal attention and respect that then translates to the in-person experience. Ultimately, these tactics not only expanded SBAS’s digital presence but also transformed a fragmented online audience into a loyal, engaged community that is empowered to pursue lifelong learning together.
Campaign Results
The SBAS case study illustrates how a community-focused strategy can lead to measurable growth. In 2025, combined platform metrics saw the following:
- Impressions increased to 111,000, representing a 490% rise from the previous period.
- Combined Post Engagements rose to 9,220, an increase of 334%.
- The net number of fans grew by 3950%, totaling 162.

This growth was driven by relatable, student-focused content paired with clear calls to action (CTAs). The most successful posts focused on community themes such as student spotlights, event highlights, and program information, particularly regarding ESL and Citizenship. Additionally, posts celebrating milestones– like graduations, classroom activities, and hands-on learning– generated substantial engagement, contributing to the significant increases.
By prioritizing authentic storytelling and maintaining consistent engagement, SBAS successfully transformed its social media presence into a tool for both community building and enrollment growth.
